1993 tour question

Postby JettRyder » Wed May 15, 2002 7:31 am

I saw the 1990 and 2002 tours live, but missed the 1993 tour due to it being cut short and not making it to Wash DC.
Even though I saw the concert from Charlotte, NC on TV, I missed being there and hearing some of my favorite Beatle tunes like Paperback Writer and Penny Lane.
Does anyone know the real reason Paul cut the tour short that year?

I think they said, (but I can't believe it} that they were lossing money. I guess it cost alot to produce then what tickets were selling for back then. It was either add alot more shows or call it quits.

Thanks for asking, Jett, and thanks for the info, Wings. I've been wondering that myself..why Paul didn't come to the DC area in '93.

At the beginning of '93 there were rumors he wasn't going to make it over to Holland either, because the venue that the promotors offered him "wasn't big enough". I always thought that was baloney, but I played it safe and got a ticket to see him in Frankfurt, Germany. Of course he ended up coming to Holland after all in October of that year, so I went again.

Maybe that was a money issue as well? All the gigs he did here were sold-out though.

I don't know whether or not the tour was losing money, but it seemed to me that as a rule he was playing cities that he skipped in 1990 and vice versa.; I have not seen a layout of both tours, but from what I remember:
1990: Played Chicago and Washington, DC
1993: Played Milwaukee and Philadelphia
The cities are close to each other, the tours were just 3 years apart and they were stadium shows.

I know the 1990 DC show was at RFK. But I thought the '93 shows, even though he didn't play DC, were mostly amphitheater type shows. I don't know, I could be wrong. Maybe I just think that because of the televised show from Charlotte.

Hey Ram1, the 1993 shows I know about in Philadelphia and Milwaukee were in stadiums; the Eagles and Brewers stadiums.
I saw him in Philadelphia a couple days before that live Charlotte show on TV and he lost it during a couple songs, really tearing his vocal chords ( he said he had friends and family in audience - Linda's family probably) and overdid it. I remember thinking 'this is great, but he won't be able to sign in Charlotte and it's going to be live on TV'; and my fears were realized when I saw the broadcast He was SO much better in Philly
