The Departed

I can't wait to see this movie. I read a lengthy interview with Jack Nicholson during my recent travles and it souds like a great flick. I know Martin Scorsese has always been a critics darling, but they've been extremely praiseworthy about this one.

I'm also anxious to hear the soundtrack. Scorsese always has great music in his movies. The soundtrack to Casino was suburb. One of the greatest gambling mix CDs I've every heard.

Go see this film!!! I think the reviews have been spot-on. A lot of people are saying it's Martin Scorsese's best film since Casino, but I think it was even better than that one. (Which I thought was good, but dragged on a bit in places) Lots of great tension in this film. Jack Nicholson was born to play this role. There's hardly anything I don't like him in, but he proved once again why he's the greatest living actor IMHO.

I'm not even a big Leo fan and he was great, too. Just an excellent cast that was very well directed. If Scorsese doesn't finally win an Oscar I'll be surprised.

The music was great as well - lots of Stones, "Sail on Sailor" by the Beach Boys," "Well Well Well" by John Lennon, some southern rock, Patsy Cline, etc. The music was very well placed, too. Jack even has a great line about John Lennon in the film.

Also I forgot to mention Van Morrison's version of "Comfortably Numb" from The Wall - Live in Berlin. Also used to great affect. Along with Cameron Crowe, I think Scorsese is one of the masters of music placement in flims.

I give it five stars!!!

Steve2--thanks for the review. I plan to see this as soon as I am able. It looks great, and I agree about Casino. It would have madea GREAT 140 minute movie instead of a bloated 178. I think there were so many great performances in the scenes he was a bit reluctant to get out the scissors as much as he should have. Back to the departed..i understand that big Jack did some improv (as he always does) and what came out was brilliant.

seriously...scorsese hasn't won an oscar yet? this guy is (arguably) america's greatest director, and he hasn't won? awards shows have always been political. he must have rubbed the wrong person the wrong way. hope he didn't get pulled over while under the influence with mel gibson in hollywood. :wink:

Lot's of greats haven't won yet. Lot's have won that shouldn't even been nominated. Sean Connery as a Irishman with a Scotish accent?

And how the heck could Peter O'tool be without an oscar?

Paris Hilton will probably win next year. :lol:

My son saw The Departed, loved it. He says it's the Western version of one of his favorite Japanese movies called Infernal Affairs. He thinks The Departed is even better. Gonna ha'f to check'er out.
