Beatles influence, yes, but not Beatle-copying. I do feel that ELO picked up where The Beatles left off in terms of groundbreaking musical achievement. Although they didn't quite have as big a following as The Beatles, of course! But I do think they were, on a musical level, the Beatles of the 70s.

Beatles influence, yes, but not Beatle-copying. I do feel that ELO picked up where The Beatles left off in terms of groundbreaking musical achievement. Liam---you are way off my friend. They didn't pick up where the Beatles left off--not even close. They were a nice band, but to compare them in terms of groundbreaking achievement with the Beatles is daft. No comparison. None. Jeff Lynne is and will always be a nice producer...but a sure Beatles wannabe, without question.

Oh--and if anyone was considered, AT THE TIME, the "Beatles of the 70's", it was Elton John. Not that I ever agreed with that, mind you. There were no "Beatles of the 70's". The closest thing in my book, of course, was Macca himself.
