On their return home from Denmark, the Lennon's had to make a detour to France. Whilst there they were interviewed by a news team in a Paris Hotel.....

Newsman: "Mr Lennon, why did you decide to cut your hair?"
John: "Because I felt like it, you know."
Newsman: "So there was no special reason?"
John: "No, I mean why do you cut yours?"

Newsman: "I suppose as a leader of a sort...of a peace movement..do you have any special plans on the future?"
John: "I'm not a leader, and I try not to make plans, you know, we have no new plans."
Yoko: "We just like to come across with the message of peace and love."
John: "Peace, peace"

Newsman: "You're going back to London now I suppose?"
John: "Yes. We only came because the fog wouldn't let us in London. We were on our way to London. We just got held up. But we enjoyed it."
Newsman: "When are you going to London?"
John: "Now."
Newsman: "And what will you do when you get there?"
John: "Go home."

Newsman: "I understand the Beatles have just recorded a new record..."
John: "A new Single...Let it be, folks."

John: "About Letting it be."
Newsman: "Can you explain that?"
John: "You'll hear it."

Berk, your thread states '73 though, not sure about any haircut then.

In 1976 there was a controversy regarding a long-hair Lennon photo to be used on Roots, a fast-track non-authorized version his Rock 'N' Roll album. From the minutes of the ensuing law suit..........:

"John argued that the cover photo on Roots, an early 1969 shot of him in shoulder-length hair, could damage his credibility as a recording artist because it neither reflected how he looked when the record was made nor was it a conceptual design, as on Rock 'N' Roll, created to evoke the spirit of the material on the album.

Prior to the trial, John had gotten his hair cut quite short and now looked nothing like the photo in question. Schurtman (the opposing attorney) put John on the stand and tried to intimidate him by maintaining that he had had his hair cut just for the trial.

"Rubbish," John replied. "I cut it every 18 months."

Everyone in the court, including Judge Griesa, broke into laughter.

In early 1970 Lennon and Yoko both had their hair cut real short; then they "donated" their locks to raise funds for a black guy (forgot his name) accused of 1rst degree murder (this guy was eventually executed for the crime). Ther is even a picture of the lennons holding their locks in the presence of that guy, on some roof top (perhaps the Saville row Apple bldg. ?)

As for 1973, Lennon really had all his head hair cut - I mean all of it.
So he was bald for some time (early '73). Perhaps just for kicks, but most probably because "MOTHER" (Y.O.) told him to.....(I guess). What for ? I dunno. Answers, anyone ?

The "black guy" was Michael 'X', and they "swapped a bag full of their recently shorn hair for a pair of Muhammad Ali's blood stained boxing shorts".

I never heard of this... I have to look into this... I know Ringo went bald in '76 (I think) in Monte-Carlo...

By all accounts 1976 was a low point in Ringo's LIFE.
Lots of booze, partying with no tomorrow in sight, bad companies....
A huge health problem that led to his undergoing surgery (I think he lost a piece of his stomach in the process), so - YEAH -
perhaps to start a new craze, perhaps for a new lease in life
he shaved off his hair, beard AND EYEBROWS !
