just finished Scott Smiths 'The Ruins'...great summer movie, that one...

now i'm deep into Dan Simmons "The Song Of Kali"

i'm already plotting to read either Stephen Kings 'The Mist' again...in preperation of the great adaption by the estimable Frank Darabont this fall...or Richard Bachmans 'The Long Walk'...

i...am actually in the middle of a highly regarded book. i'm not sure if i even like it. it is cormac mccarthy's "the road". i haven't figured out whether it is crap...or brilliant.

i'll let you fine folks know...as soon as i figure it out.

I'm reading "Resurrection" by Tolstoy. Its really good so far, but he IS my favorite and all...

Next I'm revisiting "Alice in Wonderland"...I know it's normally thought of a childrens literature, but its a really good adult read.

just finished the pulitzer prise winning "the road" by cormac mccarthy. this book, for lack of a better phrase...was utter crap. the characters did not learn anything, they didn't change throughout the course of the book. i am sincerely hoping i am a dumba$$ and need to be pointed out what this book really means. i mean...metaphors can be missed, right? maybe it went over my head.

anyone?

good thing i am starting another recent literary masterpiece...beowulf. haven't read it in eons. gotta be up to snuff since the movie gets released in a month and a half.

yeah...that's the Zemekis/computer animated (much like 'the polar express') vers., right ?
...heard good things so far...the catch will be, can zemekis capture the classic 'myth' of the tale...he does a better than average touch for adding dramatic weight to non-serious subjects...can he do that in a far more serious piece ?

time will tell...

i recently saw a rebroadcast on one of the network news shows about bigamists in utah...and with warren jeffs trial getting going, i've jumped into kon krakauers 'under the banner of heaven'...and, no...i'm NOT thinking of switching teams for more chances at 'home plate'....

just color me curious....

Interesting to discover that he went from street bum to talented minstrel almost overnight. I can remember the first time I heard "Sunshine Superman", I was at a county fair in the exhibit hall--they were piping radio tunes in on the PA and that one grabbed me right away.
