The Grey Album

Postby 2 of 3 » Sun May 28, 2006 4:25 pm

I was just listening to this, and wondered what the rest of you though of it. It does have some interesting stuff on it. Then again, it has some iffy stuff too. Still, it's neat to hear those tunes reworked for a different audience to enjoy. What's your take on The Grey Album?

I really like the Helter Skelter/99 Problems mash up, the stand out for me. Change Clothes/Piggies also good, and i like Encore.

Don't play the album that often, but it's quite a cool thing to have done.

Dangermouse is a pretty talented guy, what with producing the Gorillaz record and this Gnarls Barkley stuff as well

its different. I do not ordinarily listen to that type of music. but it did serve as an introduction of sorts for me. And i'm all for introducing the Beatles to a new and younger audience.

I'm 100% with James on this one. 99 Problems / Helter Skelter is the obvious standout here. Haven't listened to it for AGES but there sure are some great ideas present on this album. Must bring it out for another airing sometime soon!
I needed comfort of love just to get me some piece of mind.. wo-oh

Eddie, I don't have the album...but I've heard bits and pieces of it. Someone (?) takes the music from the Beatles White album, and samples lyrics from Jay-Z's (?) rap lyrics from his Black album...hence, the Gray album. I think it was an experiement that was supposed to be available on-line. But since it was sampling, without permission, it was "sort of" taken off the market.

I completely lost respect for Jay-Z after the Grey Album came out. How on earth can anyone start 'Julia' with "You're now tuned into the mo**er f***n' greatest"?!? 'Julia' is a song that was written from John's heart, and Jay-Z puts a truckload of curses on top of it? Disgraceful.
