That part where the old woman asks him "is it really you?" John: "I don't know. Maybe..." and when she puts on her glasses she says; "no, you don't look like him at all..." but the best joke from HDN is about Paul grandpa. He's a clean old man, isn't he?

And how about "How I Won The War"?? John's soldier role was not so notable in the film, well...I think that was not the intention of the director that just invited him as a guest known star... I think the film was quite boring when I saw that many years ago... Maybe I must see that again, I dunno!!!

Nito--I agree. Steve and I actually mentioned that a while back. I think 'How I Won The War' IS quite boring. And even more dissapointing is John's very small role in the movie.

I remember seeing "How I Won the War" back in 1968 at a small theatre somewhere. What I remember most was the scene when Gripweed was killed. Has anyone seen it on the video? I have the video and that scene has been edited. In the theatrical version Gripweed's stomach was blown away and he is sitting there in the field with his hands holding his intestines. Gripweed says something to the effect of : "This isn't supposed to happen is it?" He is facing the camera. That scene stayed with me till this day. It was disturbing and I felt more to the point of what that odd little film was supposed to be about.
I was ready for that scene when I got the video, but it's gone.
I guess Dick Lester felt it was too real given John's assassination and had it removed.
