Best drum solo you ever heard?

Postby maccastheman » Tue Mar 28, 2006 2:09 am

For me it has to be "Toad" by the great Ginger Baker. I'm sure many people will pick a Bonham solo, but for some reason I've always preferred Baker to Bonham. I think it's the jazz thing. Baker has always seemed like a rock 'n' jazz drummer to me. I am so grateful I finally got the opportunity to see him with Cream. He did the solo, and it was great. It wasn't as long as the Wheels of Fire version, but he still had it. In fact, he and Bruce stole the show.

Also, Steve Gadd's drum solo on "Aja" by Steely Dan is out of this world. Just perfect.

Finally, I saw Elton John several years ago with Ray Cooper, and Ray did an awesome percussion solo.
And in the end...

I'll third that, I get bored with drum solos as quickly as the next guy, but this one's a winner, Bonzo's finest moment. 8)

I love Moby Dick...it's Mind Blowing!!!!!!!!

However ,Ginger Bakers' "Toad" edges it out by a bum hair!

and neil Peart doing any solo is better than either....but thats just my opinion...but being a drummer...its a valid one.
I go back so far... I'm in front of me!
