top ten (or so) movies of all time

Postby ANGRY » Sat Mar 25, 2006 5:00 am

who cares what you're watching now...blech !

what do you love, deep in your heart...(and, could it really be only ten ?)

just as a start...i know i'll add to it..,and this is in no order, that would be silly....

the princess bride
blade runner
amadeus
the sting
papillon
apocalypse now
close encounters of the third kind
monty python and the holy grail
dances with wolves
star wars ( ep. 4: a new hope/ep.5 the empire strikes back)

i grew up watching, and loving, a lot of the older films, but many just don't hold up, for me, dramatically...(too stagey).. but a next ten would include quite a few more older films...not to mention foreign films...

the maltese falcon
the birds
the searchers
ran
the man who would be king
the great escape
henry v ( the branaugh vers.)
edward scissorhands
buckaroo banzai: across the 8th dimension (hey, dude...what's in the big, pink box?!)
dracula ( langella vers.)

i could keep going, but i'll stop for now...so, what do you like...

Fight Club
Drop Dead Fred
Sin City
Clerks
Reservoir Dogs
Pulp Fiction
Leon

To make up the other 3 spots, I'm going to say Star Wars saga, Lord of the Rings, and Monty Pythons movies. Hopefully Sin City will enter my fave sagas one day if they do 2 and 3 right.

Great topic. Wow, top ten movies, huh? I'm sorry to admit, but I'm a late night TV junkie. Always have been. In no particular order, I'll go with...

The Godfather
Pulp Fiction
Jaws
Apocolypse Now
A Clockwork Orange
Resevoir Dogs
Lord of the Rings (trilogy)
Crash (despite the Brokback backlash)
JFK
Braveheart

If I were to answer this at another time, the list may be completely different. But right now, right here, this is it.
I want to tell her that I love her a lot, but I got to get a belly full of wine.

Drop Dead Fred

Listed as one of the worst movies of all time....probably why I liked it too....that, and Phoebe Cates. Can't go wrong there.

Another really good movie that never gets mentioned is The Frighteners, with Micheal J Fox.

Personal Fav: A River Runs Through It(catch and release of course)

If that was in a news pole by some newspaper or news site I couldn't care less. Those things normally get everything mixed up anyway.

An honorable mention though in the movie department is American History X. And OldBoy's also a classic. Can't believe I didn't work that one into my list.
