Sloan are great. I can't think of another band who will change instruments with each other and still sound fantastic. It's like watching that Macca video where he plays everything.

Yes! Absolutely. Columbia/Sony finally released an Essential Herbie Hancock collection yesterday, which is long over-due. (Part of their 2 CD Essential Series) It has everything from "Cantaloupe Island" to "Watermelon Man" to "Chameleon" to "Rockit."

I was lucky enough to see him with the Headhunters at a small club on Beale Street in Memphis several years ago. Really cool guy. I got to meet him after the show.

I bought a Herbie hancock compilation CD in Brazil in 2002 at a very cheap price (something like US$ 5) that has all the tracks you mentioned and more !! It contains the best of his career since the late 60's through late 80's. All tracks are amazing !!
BTW, I believe that CD is part of a CD series on jazz men based on a fellow that produced a series of documentaries on jazz. I forgot his name. These documentaries were on TVs around the world a few years back.

Oh yeah - Ken Burns. He did the Jazz Series. Martin Scorsese did the Blues series.

Musician of the Day: Bill Withers

A consumate songwriter and a deeply soulful singer. Bill Withers is best known for the single "Lean on me". Withers was the vocal conscienceness In the 1970's with songs like"Ain't no Sunshine" and "Lovely Day". In 1982 Withers won a Grammy for the song "Just the Two of Us", a duet in which he performed with Grover Washington Jr.

Artist of the day: I take MARVIN GAYE.

The man was a great soulful singer and composer.
And he sure knew how to handle LOVE to the ladies - his music was so sensuous, so "up for it", so emotion-driven, so horny, he'd get them all ladies on their fours, oozing for him......
