I haven't seen this one - I'll keep that in mind next time I walk into a video/DVD store....Wait, isn't it with Sean Penn and Susan Sarandon ?
If it is, then I've seen it - the last quarter hour on TV. Pretty depressing movie.

Lost in Translation

Yes, good call Berkeleyan - not only a good film, but an excellent soundtrack as well. My Bloody Valentine, Air - excellent choices for the over-all feel of the movie.

My favorite soundtracks:

Royal Tenenbaums - Another great one from Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh. It's amazing how he can make so many artists that seem so diverse fit seamlessly into the film - Paul Simon, Nico, The Clash, even the Vince Guaraldi Trio! I also like Mothersbuagh's score. He works very well with Wes Anderson.

Vanilla Sky - Cameron Crowe definitely has an ear for music. (I wonder how he developed that. ) Again, it's an eclectic range of artists that all mold together very well - Macca, Radiohead, The Monkees, Looper (The off-shoot of Belle and Sebastian), Afrika Bambaataa, etc. Although it fit the theme of the movie very well, I'm a bigger fan of the soundtrack than the film.

Dead Presidents - Great collection of '70s funk and soul. - Sly, Curtis Mayfield, The O'Jays, James Brown, Isaac Hayes, etc.

Blow - I thought "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" by the Rolling Stones was a perfect way to open the film - the Latin influence in the song combined with the paranoid lyrics - perfect way to open a drug movie. The rest of the songs fit the film very well, too. ("That Smell" by Skynard, etc.)

Casino - Again, it has a great feel. Robbie Robertson's best soundtrack IMHO - and very generous - 2 discs of Blues, Classic Rock, Jazz, etc.

Superfly - What else needs to be said? Curtis Mayfield's masterpiece.

Alfie (Remake) - Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart did a fine job on this one. I really like the song "Old Habits Die Hard." The Mick Jagger/Joss Stone duet is incredible as well.

I'm sure there are many more I'm leaving out, but those are the main ones for now.

I should probably throw the Magnolia soundtrack in there as well. I love the Aimee Mann songs, plus the Supertramp songs fit very well alongside them. I really like her cover of "One," the Nilsson song made famous by Three Dog Night.
