Yeah the remasters were all done in 1987, which with all due respect, was a heck of a long time ago. With much more sophisticated technology at our disposal now, surely these albums could be restored to their fullness that came from the vinyl? There's nothing too wrong with the remastering itself, but just lacks a little something. Cds by nature have this brittleness to them, I guess it's something we live with.

I wonder whether or not the latest craze - MP3 players, Apple's "ipod" -would be the alternative to purchasing tons of remasterized CD's.

How do they compare w/ "regular" and remasterized CD's ? And can we get all songs we want through them ? Pardon my ignorance of the subject.

MP3 players come empty. You can load whatever you want onto them and the sound quality is as good as the source. If you load up a cd, it will sound like a cd. If you transfer a bootlegged album, it will sound like an album. No sound improvement, just convenience.

When he puts himself to it, Macca is the greatest bass player ever !
And "Abbey Road" is one the most important (if not the most important) testimonials of that !

yes, the best version i've heard of Paperback Writer was from the vinyl copied to tape.

p.s: Bass playing from Paul on Sgt Pepper i believe to be better than abbey roads.
