Yes, he does sing shoot me.
John often imagined himself Christ-like or a martyr.
Maybe because he was always getting song after song banned on the BBC. Not to mention the British press were always crucifying him and Yoko in those days.
So it showed up in the lyrics of Come Together and The Ballad of John and Yoko.

I just find it curious, given that there had already by that time been a few accusations of subliminal messages, like this murderer saying that the songs on the White Album told him to go and kill people. It's also unfortunate, and one can't help but wonder if you-know-who took it as just such a message . . . [:0]

Those of us who collect "Beatlegs" might also recall another song with John using the phrase "Shoot me!". The song is known as WATCHING RAINBOWS - obviously a Lennon song - from the January 1969 Get Back/Let It Be period.
