James1985, this is nearly an IMPOSSIBLE task...and it can change yearly, monthly, weekly...even daily.
But, I'll give it shot, off the top of my head (in no particular order):
*Hey Jude-- the greatest single ever!
*Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey--manic singing, great bass line, and KILLER guitar riffs. Awesome rocker!
*Strawberry Fields Forever-- amazing song.
*I Am The Walrus-- the LOVE mix...which, because of it's sensational sound, is the ONLY one I can listen to now...wish I could edit out the seguing into the crowd noise...I'd love to get a "pure" copy of this mix.
*Yer Blues-- they sound like a band having fun, and Lennon's vocal borders that fine line of parody and sincerity...leaning towards the latter. And that second lead guitar...what a NASTY sound!
*I Feel Fine-- nearly a PERFECT pop/rock recording.
*Sweet Little Sixteen-- from the first BBC collection...listen to this band's rocking ability...and the timing on the brief stops and starts. And Lennon's spectacular singing.
*Taxman-- the guitar, the bass line, the great George vocal, the tongue-in-cheek background vocals, and the social commentary...great song.
*For No One-- my favorite McCartney ballad EVER. Gorgeous, haunting melody...rare melancholy lyric from Paul.
*You Never Give Me Your Money"-- a rock opera within a song. Genius.
"Happiness Is A Warm Gun"-- see "You Never Give Me Your Money"...and Lennon beat Paul to it by a year.
in years to come/they may discover/what the air we breathe and the life we lead are all about/but it won't be soon enough for me
