So, during the Christmas period 1956, Ringo's stepdad bought a drum kit for young Ritchie in Romford, which is a suburb way out past the east end of London. He then carried it on the train all the way back into London to Liverpool Street Station, across town on the tube to Euston and then managed to get it in the luggage compartment on the train back to Liverpool Lime Street. And then carried it home to the Dingle!
I'm about 100 pages in and so far the book's doing a great job of creating the feel of 1950s Liverpool. And it's great on the little moments of heroism like the above that made all this stuff happen.
There's also a LOT more on Ringo than in the 'early days' parts of other Beatle bios.
