LOL Ram---a short list of essential players needed to perform as the orig name of the group..

Beatles--all 4, obvioulsy
WHo- Roger & Pete
Led Zep- Page & Plant
Eagles-Frey & Henley
Stones-Mick and Keith (and prob Ronnie, though not an orig and Charlie)

the list could go on and on..any others?

Sooner or later we all will be there....

Cream--All 3. (Clapton, Bruce, Baker)
The Doors--All 4. (Although they are going on tour next year with a variety of frontmen.)
Queen--(As been established)
Jimi Hendrix Experience--(Umm, probably the most obvious, LOL.)
Sex Pistols--Johnny Rotten/Lydon with just about anybody else.
The Police--Sting and Stu Copeland. (Andy Summers is ok, but not the musician that the other two are.)

Umm, that's all for now. I'm tired of thinking. LOL

Thomas, I was there too on Queen's Day. I agree it wasn't as good as it would have been with Freddie there, but damn... IT WAS QUEEN! Just seeing them, even without John Deacon, was good enough for me. And clapping along with We Will Rock You is like singing along with Hey Jude. Only very few artists can say they have such a huge crowdpleaser. And Trijntje Oosterhuis did a pretty good job, imho.

At the Palace, that W*** Y**** was pretty awful. How on earth did that guy win Pop Idol? But the Freddie lookalike that sang Bohemian Rhapsody was really good.

I think Queen should only perform on very rare occasions, like Queen's Day in Holland and the anniversary of their own Queen - but John Deacon should be there and guest vocalists must first sign some form that states that they absolutely never had ANYTHING to do with Pop Idol.

Agreed with Brains. Bo Rhap kicked ass. As for essential band members:

Beatles: all 4
ABBA: all 4
Police: all 3
Queen: might get away with no John Deacon, but it's touch and go.
ELO: Jeff Lynne, certainly, others I'm not 100%
Foreigner: Mick Jones & Lou Gramm (the only members still in the band now)
Sytx: Dennis DeYoung, Tommy Shaw, not sure about the others.

Ok Brains. I agree that it was really cool to see Brian (and Roger) live and clapping along We will Rock You was cool too. Of course the People from Amsterdam always love We are the Champions and Trijntje Oosterhuis did a really good job. but I mean't that I never got the feeling that I got when I watchted the shows with Freddie (I'm too young to have ever been to a Queen show) even when this was live and Brian is one of my heroes. They couldn't make it to my expectations (in dutch: ik had er meer van verwacht en dat kwam er niet uit)
If Queen decides to perform on special occasions they should take one or two singers and make a big show out of it, of course with John Deacon. two singers who, I think, can do the job are Robbie Williams and George Michael. On the party at the palace it was just promotion for their musical

Led Zeppelin: I think must have 4 of them, J.Bonham and JP Jones are essential, though many people say that Zep is the duo Plant/Page. So much so when Bonham died, Zep broked up.
