Jet!

Postby Julian » Thu Jun 13, 2002 6:32 am

Hi guys!
Can anybody tell me what this crazy text is all about?
I'm from Germany, Nürnberg and even don't know the meaning of suffragette. Would be nice.

Follow this link to reveal all .. !!

In the context of the song, it's irrelevant, but a typical McCartneyism (if it rhymes, stick it in the song!)

The song isn't really about much. The lyrics probably employed the "anything for a rhyme" strategy. Musically, though, it's excellent - although it could have been quicker - which it is when done live.

I believe that Jet came out the same year as Bowie's Suffragette City.
I don't believe I've heard the term in another song before or since. Is there a connection here?

By the way, I believe the song is a about a dog that Paul had (Martha?)

Martha was an Old English Sheep Dog he omce owned, but Jet was a Black Labrador. He owned it the same time he wrote Helen Wheels about his old Land Rover, which was apparently 'Hell On Wheels' to drive!

Martha was his dog, and the inspiration for "Martha My Dear", on the White Album, which you probably already know anyway . . .

Did you ever wonder why Paul made the keyboard solo on JET fairly simple. My theory is that Paul figured the song was gonna be a hit and that meant Linda would end up having to play it in concert. I think the same goes for the solo on BOTR.

Possibly. They did say many times that Linda wasn't up there because she was the best keyboard player in the world (which she definitely wasn't) - she was up there because they loved each other. But yeah, you do have a point, Dakota. But aren't simple ideas always the best anyway?
