Favorite McCartney song since Y2K?

Postby Tiger » Thu Dec 26, 2013 11:16 pm

Our guy Sir Paul has been pretty damn prolific the past 13 years. In my opinion, the general population is missing out on some great work from a master songwriter. He's had a lot of really good work that he's produced since the year 2000. Driving Rain, Chaos and Creation, Memory Almost Full, Kisses, and now New all have some pretty damn good gems on them.

What's your one single favorite song of Paul's this millennium?

For me, it's a very simple and incredibly underestimated number . . . This Never Happened Before. It speaks to me. Heck, it speaks FOR me. I know the emotion of this song. I live it.

Hard to pick one song, Tiger. Even from the NEW CD.

Some contenders...

"Vintage Clothes"

"Sing The Changes"

"Riding To Vanity Fair"

"Early Days"

I'll have to give this some thought but the first song that came to mind was "This Never Happened Before" .

I'm surprised by this affection for the song "This Never Happened Before." It's a song I NEVER play when I have CHAOS out. I think it's one of the weakest tracks on it. But, that's just me.

Maybe I need to listen again, but it sounded like bland MOR the first couple of times I heard it, and didn't think it warranted further listens.

Mattal, you surprise me. You don't care for "This Never Happened Before", huh? I love that one as well. In fact I think it's quite beautiful; one of Paul's best ballads even. However, I don't consider it my favorite since 2000. This is one of those questions that's really too hard to answer because depending on my mood, the climate blah blah blah...but today, right now I might be able to give an uneasy answer, but don't hold me to it! ....uh, ok I can't, but I have some contenders:

Early Days
Vintage Clothes
Mr. Bellamy
My Valentine
Alligator
Riding to Vanity Fair
Travelling Light
How Kind of You

i, for one, am....musing upon this thought...

too hard at the moment...as so many have rightfully said: too, too many great choices...

now...if you'd started in 1999....i would make a very strong argument for 'run devil run'

seeing as that is not the case...hang on, tigery one: a true tiger quietly stalks his prey...then leaps to the kill...unless...he's in africa
lift up your head...and remember what your life is !

Mr. H, didn't realize you held the song, "Run, Devil, Run" in such high regard! I like it tons, myself.

(unless you were being flippant, of course...sometimes you are hard to "read" :santa )

Too easy!

MY VALENTINE

I won't live long enough to see it, but this will become a classic that lasts through generations to come.
I honestly believe this to be equivalent to 'The Very Though of You' etc,... ^:)^
