Yeah so I'd heard a few rumours the night before, so was quite prepared for something to happen. I work right round the corner, so fairly easy to get to a west end location at lunchtime. In the morning, a few sites were reporting that trucks with PM on them had set up in front of the church in covent garden. So I left the office about 12.45 and got down there. At ten to one there weren't too many people there and there was loads of space to get around people and I managed to get about five or six people back, as you can see in the pic.

So by 1.30 we were still waiting! And I looked back and there must've been at least a couple of thousand people there. There's a bar with a terrace directly facing where the 'stage' was, so people were up there, too, and looking out of windows. Even some builders in the background were lined up on the scaffolding, dancing.

So they came out and it was really surreal to see him that close up. It's the closest I've ever been. To be fair to him, he gives it his all and still looks like he really loves it. Like there isn't anything else he could be doing. He does look old, in a surreal way because of the hair and everything. But he sounded fantastic when he was performing, but a little bit tired and old between the songs. It must take a lot out of him, god knows how he still does three-hour shows.

So the rattled through New, Save Us (which kicked), Everybody Out There and Queenie Eye (which kicked, too). Only slight disappointment was that he checked with the council guy whether they had time for one more and they did. So they played New again! I thought he'd just rattle through Lady Madonna or something, but the crowd warmed up to it.

It was great fun, glad I got to see him so close up. And we should be happy he can still do it, because it won't be long before he can't stand up and rock out for hours. He's seventy-bloody-one!
