Sample as a solo artist - The Bike Song:

Very McCartneyesque melody under there - this could be interesting. Seems to me like given Ronson's tendancies - this would be Paul's final shot at making Top 40 hits.

Some interesting connections (from wikipedia):
Ronson spends his time between London and New York. His stepfather is Mick Jones from Foreigner, who raised him from the age of seven.[29]

In 2002, he began dating Quincy Jones's daughter, actress/singer Rashida Jones[30] They became engaged in March 2003, with Ronson proposing by creating a crossword puzzle with the message "Will you marry me".[31] They later broke up.

He lived next door to and was friends with Sean Lennon.

In March 2009, Ronson was pictured with French actress and singer Joséphine de La Baume. She was featured in his 2010 video for "The Bike Song." The couple got engaged in February 2011. They married in Aix-en-Provence, in the South of France on 3 September 2011.[32]

In 2009 he participated in PETA's "Please Don't Wear Any Fur" campaign.[33] He was also voted the most stylish man in UK by GQ magazine.[34]

EddieV,

Thank you very much. Top 40 is vastly underrated lately. I just want Paul to have a rocking good album.

this is an interesting, fresh choice...

if they run with it, it might be a neat shot in the arm...macca needs to hear other voices that can both accentuate his style and get him to push a little...

i'm thinking that alot of thought goes into this sort of thing...that the choice is 100% more than just picking someone who's got into the top 40 or whatever...the man keeps his ear to the ground and listens to what his trusted people offer in advice

and, so far, lately, he's been making all the right moves

i'll believe less only when i hear it for myself...

you go, paul and mark...show these whiners you know what you're doing !

wanting to produce a classic album with a young hip edge

I like the "classic album" part, but the ""with a young hip edge" concerns me. It brings to me horrific images of auto-tune and Paul trying to be something he's much better than when he is simply being himself, all for the sake of getting back on the charts. The charts ain't what they used to be. Maybe I'm just an old fart, but the "hip young edge" that's out there today is absolute crap.

I hope I'm wrong and will be pleasantly surprised.

That's what I meant when I said "uh oh", Savillerowdie, but you said it better. When I heard our kid wanted someone with a top 40 pedigree, my first thought was Spinning on a n Axis and Tiny Bubble and I panicked.

:? what is this...FEAR FACTOR: McCartney style ???

'cause we all know...once paul starts pallin' around with all these youngsters...

he's gonna go make stoopid music...jus' like every other time

i've yet to see an album where paul was not paul

i do know there is a plethora of really great music being made these days, and paul isn't one to sell out his artistic soul in the manner of which has been feared...

he may have simply picked someone who is a kindred musical spirit...what's wrong with that...give the man some credit, dudes !

Got to give Macca the benefit of the doubt here. Most of what he's done for almost 50 years has been pretty good. Some people on here ripped Kisses but it turned out to be pretty good. Look I've been clamoring for some new tunes from him so no way am I going to be critical of his choice of producers. Let's see what he comes up with. I'm pretty sure we won't be disappointed.
