Next `McCartney Archive` release ?

Postby Mike » Thu Feb 03, 2011 1:13 pm

MusicTAP has claimed that the next releases of Remastered McCartney albums will be on May 24th. They say that Run Devil Run (1999), Driving Rain (2001), and Chaos & Creation In The Back Yard (2005) will be reissued. A bit of confusion as they said when Band on the Run was released, McCartney, Ram, Venus & Mars, Wings At The Speed of Sound, Wings Over America would be "coming soon".

It's gonna be great seeing what gems get thrown in these packages. Stay tuned to this space for everything McCartney.

I would have thought that the older releases would be remastered first. I was hoping for Venus and Mars and Ram.

Rumors have come about that the more recent re-issue titles that were supposedly leaked out this week, will simply be only the standard albums coming out on the new label (no deluxe editions, no extra tracks, etc.)- but who knows.
At the same time, we've just heard news that both "McCartney" & "McCartney II" are the next more deluxe edition type releases ready to go...

From: http://www.maccablog.com/en/index.html# ... -7998.html
Text: "The news has been confirmed to MaccaBlog, the next remastered albums release of Paul McCartney will be McCartney I and McCartney II. Like the Band on the Run release, different editions will be available:

For McCartney I :
- 2CD package, the second CD containing rare and previously unheard audio documents.
- 2CD and 1DVD package, with a 100 pages booklet.

For McCartney II :
- 2CD package, the second CD containing rare and previously unheard audio documents.
- 2CD and 1DVD package, with a 100 pages booklet.

The DVDs content has not been reveiled yet."

1) "From the MusicTap facebook page:
' They have to be integrated into the Hear Music catalog. Likely nothing more than a standard repackage to reflect Hear Music. The earlier stuff likely needs much more special handling than these titles do. I wouldn't worry about these titles too much.' "
2)

Nothing is official yet as things either are changed from MPL end or the source is just wrong. I've seen artciles in the past that stated "official" but later turned out to be false. McCartney staff are just so good at keeping things tight lipped, as they are ordered to. This just doesn't make a lot of sense to me. As a fan I surely would like to know what and when the staggered releases will come simply to plan for budget reasons. It is a time of very limited entertainment dollars. This is evident from the monthly donations to this site, they are at their all-time lowest. Current month is $30 and last month was a devastating $10.

I'm easy to please. I'll be happy with any release as long as it includes upgraded sound and bonus material. There are some great b sides from chaos and creation. I'd gladly pay for a dvd with every album.

Sounds like the Run Devil Run through Chaos and Creation are just adding those titles to Macca's current Hear Music deal.

That said... it would be a mistake to not issue them w/some bonus tracks-

RDR at least with Fabulous

Chaos with the b-sides (She Is So Beautiful, I Want You To Fly, etc)

My guess is really for many reasons. So much potential additional material for each release, lots of decisions to be made and Paul is hands on with everything. Which one will get the royal treatment like Band on the Run where Paul did a series of talk shows etc. I would not doubt the actual remastering has been completed but the packaging is something different. One thing can be said with the suits at EMI, surely to save big $$$ they would have release them all at once. But this is why Paul left, the artists want more control of their creations. From our perspective, we want them now, but be patient. What we will get from Hear Music will be a superior product than what we would have got the old way.

Surely these do not break even? It did not appear that BOTHR sold very well.
