Paul postpones Melbourne Concert !

Postby Mike » Sun Oct 27, 2002 10:37 am

"As a mark of respect to both the families who have lost loved ones and to the families of the injured, I have decided to postpone my planned concert in Melbourne as this is not the appropriate time for a rock show," McCartney said in a statement.

Why not? The Concert for NYC was a good time for a rock show. So why can't Melbourne be like that?

CFNYC was a benefit for the families of the 9-11 tragedy with many many stars and performers, all brought together by Macca. Different situation totally.

[:(!][:(][V][?]

There are a lot of pissed off people here down under.

The excuse is lame beyond belief. He is the man that was the key organizer
of the 9/11 concert in NY. Does he think we are idiots here to believe such
an obvious cover up! Bali is our 9/11, we need hope for the future as much
as US citizens do. This is so cruel it can't be the real reason for the
postponement.

The ticket sales were going through the roof. They were starting to organize
a second concert, so that's NOT the issue.

Australia is one of the most secure places on earth. The Olympic Games in
2000 was incident free despite credible threats. He has security up to his
armpit, and played in places where the security would have been at least the
same if not greater, so that's NOT the issue.

I, like many Macca fans down under want real reasons not excuses. If it's a
money thing (e.g.: he can make more money canceling Australia and playing
else where) well I'm sorry he's lost me. Here I am a passionate Macca head
saying that! I can't believe I am even suggesting it. I mean I virtually
worship the guy.

Paul, please come clean, cut the crap and I hope that when the truth finally
comes out (and it will) that there is a real and honest reason for serving
up this rubbish to your devotees here. Only then will SOME of the faith be
returned.

Maybe Paul is also tired.
He looked tired to me at the Pond.
I read Geoff said that Paul will do a bigger Austrailian tour next year.

I have been a Paul McCartney fan for around 8 years...since around 1994. Ever since then i have been hanging out for a tour here in Australia. Finally, it was recently announced that he was coming and holding a concert in Melbourne...you can imagine my excitement! So I've gone to the trouble of buying the best ticket (as soon as the tickets went on sale over the internet) i could afford and organised to travel to Melbourne (since i approx 1000kms away).

You can imagine my dissapointment when i heard that the concert had been cancelled due to the Bali bombing. However what really annoys me is the pathetic excuse given. Paul (on the off chance you might read this) your excuse is completely contradictory to your previous actions with the terroist attacks in the US 9/11. Your fans deserve to be treated with intelligence and an adequate reason given. Im sure most would accept personal reasons etc. but not this.

I feel very dissapointed I am now reconsidering my status as a Paul mccartney fan (after 8 years!). Should i remove my beatles poster from my bedroom wall? should i remove my MACA cd from my car (cause for the very first time i dont feel like listening to your music) I am not sure if i will bother attending a future concert. i dont like to be treated as a fool. However you are human and make mistakes...If you want to regain credibility id suggest you appologise to your fans and tell them the real reason?

Paul's board is full of Aussie fans bashing Paul right now. They certainly don't share his saddness over the recent tragedy in Bali.
There's a lot of hate over there. It's sickening.
Geoff Baker said that Paul will reschedule dates next year in Austrailia. That sounded like more than one concert, which wasn't enough in my view.
I'm sorry if people are out airfare money. Perhaps next year people won't need to travel so far to see him.
