FROM MACCA-CENTRAL NEWS

Adopt A Minefield Benefit Tonight #775
Wednesday, September 18, 2002 source - Reuters Article #775

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Two of rock music's greatest living songwriters --former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and Beach Boy Brian Wilson -- will sing two of their best known hits together at a rare benefit performance on Wednesday, organizers said.

They plan to duet on "God Only Knows" from the Beach Boys' seminal 1966 album "Pet Sounds" and on the title song from the Beatles' 1970 "Let It Be" collection at a fund-raiser for the anti-land mines charity supported by McCartney and his wife, Heather.

The duets promise to be the highlight of a show that will include separate sets from Wilson and McCartney. Their respective work more than 35 years ago on "Pet Sounds" and the Beatles' landmark "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" revolutionized rock music.

"Brian is a phenomenal talent; his is the only music that can reduce me to tears," McCartney said in a statement issued after the two had rehearsed for the show on Tuesday at Sony Studios in Los Angeles.

The charity event, at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, comes as
McCartney and his band prepare for the next leg of their U.S. tour, which opens in Milwaukee on Saturday.

While organizers of Adopt A Minefield charity touted the upcoming
McCartney-Wilson matchup as the first of its kind, the two also performed together in June as part of an all-star concert celebrating Britain's Queen Elizabeth's Golden Jubilee.

I hope to God MAcca can hit the notes on "God only knows". Jesus, that's a tough one to sing.

Brian Wilson has the stage presence of a frightened deer running through a white trash possee of riflemen.

LOL. That is so true. You're worried about paul hitting the notes? Did you see brian sing at the queen's jubilee?
