In an interview with USA Today, Paul McCartney has confirmed he'll play the first concerts at New York's Citi Field, the replacement for Shea Stadium where the Beatles played in 1965 and 1966.

The paper said tickets for the concerts on July 17-18 concerts go on sale Monday. (Note: This is incorrect. The official announcement indicated the tickets go on sale June 15, also a Monday.)

"I'm really looking forward to it. It feels right. It was great to open Shea, and if anyone had to close it, I wanted to be there. So now I got the offer to open Citi Field, and it's like, 'Oh, yeah, got to do it. That's my venue'," McCartney said backstage in Los Angeles Monday where he was appearing to kick off "The Beatles: Rock Band" video game.

He indicated there might be a new song from the '60s that was played at Shea Stadium added to the set.

"There are a couple I'm flirting with, but I don't decide this far out," McCartney said.

Are you near by enough to do a drop in visit first? I hope so...I'm considering trying to go (though I live closer to Rochester/Buffalo), because I honestly don't think he's going to tour again (for various reasons)- unless it'd be a Summer tour when Beatrice was old enough to go along. I think we're going to get these kind of one off gigs, with an occasional string of shows, and that'll be it, so this may be my last real good shot at seeing him (outside of a hopeful Toronto gig- & a chance to hear "Mull Of Kintyre" live there). I cannot wait for this concert! I just found out that there's an American Express presale tomorrow too, so now I know I'll be able to get tickets - I've been shut out of his concerts too many times!
