I'm sure there was at one time, but looking all through this OTHER ARTISTS category I saw no dedicated Led Zep thread, so what-the-hey, there must be still plenty to say, 'aye?
I recently got The Black Crowes with Jimmy Page Live @ the Greek. I'm not necessarily a Zep purist. I anticipated that it might be pretty good, but it really surprised me, it kicks! I've never been a huge Black Crowes fan, liked some of their radio cuts, and that's about it.
Chris Robinson did not try to impersonate Plant thankfully, but what he did was just sing his hiny off! Page made a good call teaming up with these guys. I would think the pressure would also be on Drummer Gorman to measure up to Bonham, but even he was deliverin' the goods.
The one weak cut is Shape of Things To Come, a grand old Yardbirds chesnut that I've always loved, but this'n really dragged to me. They did do a couple of Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac tribute numbers that were spot on. Back in the day that earliest bluesy version of FM gave everybody a run for their money.
All told I have to say I enjoy it about as much as I do How The West Was Won (which is light years better that The Song Remains The Same soundtrack).
