New Tom Petty

Postby jgkojak » Fri Aug 04, 2006 3:25 pm

The new Tom Petty, Highway Companion, is out, produced by jeff Lynne.

Haven't heard it enough to review yet-- my impression is that it sounds very similar to Full Moon Fever, and that there are 2-3 really really great, classic Petty songs on it (Saving Grace, Turn This Car Around)

Check out the 'non-Macca cd of the moment' thread, there are a few people who are getting into this album. 'Jack' is a strange little song - it would be my personal favourite right now.

Macca fans, do you hear the resemblance Saving Grace has to Stranglehold on Press To Play? It's a rocky opener, with that swarthy swagger to it. Is it just me who has felt this? When I first put this cd on, my first thought was 'Stranglehold'.

The lyrics of Saving Grace are much more sophisticated.

Having lived with the record a couple days... I have to say...

whereas Chaos grew on me.. this one has kinda gone flat after a couple playings.
