i don't know if i'd go so far as to say that he wrote the songs that we love so much. except for see emily play, i don't know if he wrote any of the songs that go down as classic pink floyd. but he did have his value. he founded the band. its fairly safe to argue that he inspired the songs that we love so much. he may have even been the one to teach (his replacement) david gilmore the guitar. sad, that he went into a brian wilson type of drug fueled paranoia. but the band went on to have a pretty remarkable career without him, even as they were singing songs about him.
