Billy is certainly a fave of mine, but I don't know his catalog nearly as well as Macca...I spin "Glass Houses" about three times a year...doesn't sound like a lot, but I keep coming back. I quote his "I Don't Want To Be Alone Anymore" sometimes when I am puzzled or worried, " I really wish I was less of a thinking man, and more a fool who's not afraid of rejection". That is a fine tune, to boot!

Billy is the only musician I've seen in concert more than McCartney, I love his music (saw him more because he's cheaper, not cause he's better). This last tour he just did, the one that starts up again next month, is great. He's sober and refreshed. Just a few years back it was almost a waste to see him live he was so trashed on stage.

Anyone who is a fan of the Beatles looking to get into Billy Joel's music needs to start with his "Nylon Curtain" album which is full of Beatle and Mccartney-esque styled rock n roll! Billy is a huge Beatles fan and it shows on that record and also it's just a damn good Billy Joel album to boot!

Once asked wheter there are other artists' songs Paul wished he had written himself, he replied that he would choose some 40's standard (don't recall which) AND just the way you are.
Funnily enough Billy stated that he is not very happy with the arangment, which in his view made the song sound tomm much like 10cc.

I like his seventies period best with 52nd street, piano man and the stranger.
never been a great fan of his later period - bridge, storm front, river (the latter being the best IMHO).
The good side of the fact that he ceased to record and rarerly performs is that his voice preserved quite well - you can hear it on his most recent concert CD, 12 Gardens.
