Bands that should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Postby maccastheman » Tue Mar 14, 2006 6:42 pm

Those of you who have seen my previous posts know I have mixed feelings at best about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I'm not a huge fan of Jann Wenner and Co., but it is what it is.

That being said, there a few bands/artists that are eligible to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame but for some strange reason haven't been inducted.

Here is my list:

Patti Smith (If you are going to induct Blondie and the Pretenders - who both deserve it - then why the heck isn't she in there?)

Roxy Music - Practically invented New Wave.

Squeeze - Sold out Madison Square Garden without really having any hits in the U.S. because the great songs spoke for themselves despite the lack of radio support.

Split Enz/Crowded House/Neil Finn

Lou Reed (As a solo artist)

Peter Gabriel

I know I will think of others, but that's a start...
And in the end...

Good call. And they don't take into account artists like Neil Finn who, if you add all of his bands together, had an incredible impact, but each band individually (Split Enz, Crowded House, Finn Brothers) isn't a "superstar" group.

Others I left out:

Todd Rundgren - Has a great recording career of his own, and also produced tons of hit albums.

The Jam - Huge impact on British music influencing almost all of Brit Pop and tons of others.
And in the end...

Exactly. What about Jeff Lynne then too?! I would put him in for E.L.O. alone, but solo work, producing, Wilburys, etc -- He's the man! He's gotta go in!

I was just listening to them today -- great stuff! I have 'Track Record', but I'd like to get some of their original releases -- any suggestions for me??

No kidding, Burton Cummings has one of the great voices in rock. Like Macca he can sing anything, and do it great.

I haven't heard Humpty's Blues in decades, would be nice to hear that one again sometime.

I echo Todd Rundgren, the various Finn incarnations, plus Los Lobos, Marshall Crenshaw and Nick Lowe, all dudes that have given me hours upon hours on listening and re-listening pleasure. 8)
