Honestly Ringo would be up there for me. The topic is favorite drummer and not best right?

Ringo aside I'd go with Neil Peart. With Earl Palmer & Benny Benjamin being up there too.

Honorable mention: Radiohead's Phil Selway & even though I'm not a big fan I gotta say Phil Collins. His early Genesis years are freakin' amazing. I

funny you've mentioned this. i had the pleasure of seeing phil collins live in three very different formats. he was a superb drummer all three times (sususudio notwithstanding)...with genesis, solo, and with eric clapton's touring band. three very different drum solos. and oddly enough, he was best with clapton. sometimes phil's saccharin solo songs tend to make you overlook exactly how good a drummer he really was.

very difficult to pick any favorite musician..favorite style perhaps?
If I had to pick a top three I'd go with
Levon Helm "the Band"
Mitch Mitchel "The Jimi Hendrix Experience"
Niel Pert "Rush"

Excellent point, but I would like to add sometimes his stage personality makes you forget that as well. Maybe he is a nice guy in person but I have always disliked how he talks and acts publicly. Kind of a "I'm above you" vibe I've always gotten from him.

GJH- How did I forget Levon Helm! I might just have to change my vote for favorite.

James- Completely agree. Thom's antics and Johny's guitar playing always get the attention. But Radiohead's true power is in Phil & Colin. One of the best drummer/bass duos in rock music. First time I ever saw Radiohead live I just stood completely still- mesmerized by Phil's drumming.
