that's the problem for me..i, too, loved the books...and there is just something missing when compared

can't figure out why it is i'm not an 'ed wood' fan..have tried it several times ( 'mars...', too) just can't get the vibe off them...it is the only burton film i actively dislike...
'mars attacks', while not in the dislike mode, is just sort of meh; for me, it ought to be funnier, more outrageous..it just feels/seems tame and very stagey

'sweeney todd' was no remake, dude...and my daughter, who hates musicals with a passion, loved it, too...crazy movie...depps performance is incredible.
loved every moment of 'sleepy hollow'...and 'big fish'...true classics

'...apes' : i am so back and forth, as a humongous apes fan, i could not have been more primed...and burtons take is not all that bad..but,it is the 'remake' script that drags the thing down...why ?!?! it added nothing new...and burtons 'twists', as he tried to put his own stamp on an already completed script come off as heavy handed, overthought geek sh!t

seek out, if you can find them, the mid '70's marvel comics magazine size POTA comic book, and, in them, there is a original series/sequel called, i believe, 'the future history chronicles'...if burton had used that as the template..holy crap...best apes movie ever made...and that storyline would be tailor-made for him and his sensabilities...

'crazy heart' is a really good movie, and jeff bridges was very, very good...so is t bone burnetts music (no surprise, there !)..but if you've seen 'tender mercies'...or a few other really good, similar movies....it doesn't add anything new or astonishing...

and...i thought the 'tron' preview beat the ever-livin' pants off toy story 3-d'...but, that's just my lil' ole opinion, right ?

just saw the wolfman. kinda dissappointing for what i hoped for. american werewolf in london still rules for me.

most definately agreed..did the cgi bug you ?

i was annoyed beyond compare at some of the individual moments: especially when they showed the wolfman running from a vantage point of close up/face front: it looked like a friggin' scooby doo cartoon !

Just to wrap up the Burton discussion, if it hadn't been for Big Fish I would've said he has completely lost it as a director. Its not that his remakes or his takes on well established stories are bad, its just not what I expect from the man that gave us so many glimpses of pure genius in the past. There was a time I would have counted him as one of my top 3 fave directors if not my all time fave, now he just puts his quirky spin on already established stories. OK, Sweeny wasn't a remake I'll give you that, but it wasn't exactly a "new" and unique story. Of course I could say this about 99% of all movies Hollywood is turning out these days.

As for werewolf movies, has anyone seen Dog Soldiers? I know its a bit old but just saw it for the first time and loved it.

And to markferber, you weren't the only one to love Mars Attacks. Personally one of my favorite Burton films but I wouldn't call it a classic. Then again I do think Bubba-Ho-Tep and Army of Darkness are two of the greatest films ever made

I love Joe Vs the Volcano! The best Hanks/ Ryan movie if you ask me. Even though its been years since I've seen it, I can't hear Come Go with Me or Blue Moon without thinking about that movie. Never did see Casino

I saw Tyler Perry's new movie last week and thought it was pretty good. Not his best though.
