i had a friend who was travelling on business. big golf fan. he drove 3 and 1/2 hours to augusta just to take a picture of the sign in front of the golf course. when they spotted him, with camera, they rushed security out to escort him away from the very private club. may not be the nicest fellows in the land, but the course sure did look good on tv, didn't it?

one must remember, that it was just a few years ago, the..uh... estimed environs at august national were...trepidatious about tiger woods as they still did not allow blacks to attend their course in a manner other than, shall we say, with a more workman-like service atitude...
as a one-time citizen of the great state of georgia, i can attest to the extreme dicotomy of it's one foot being fully in this century, and another very firmly planted, with undue amount of pride, in it's very racist past.

the 'security' was probably an overreaction because agusta national brings out all sort of people with all sorts of agendas

as a more than relatively unprejudiced old white guy: there's nothing so head spinning as sitting in a restaurant and watching some white person/couple talk nicely with a person/couple of a different race, and see what they really think/say the moment that same person leaves

most of us that either never lived that sort of hatred, or who've overcome that backwards thinking, just don't have any idea what is really going on throughout the world : this is NOT just a problem in america

as for the round: i only watched the last day: bit of a nail biter: could tiger and/or phil rally ...would the leaders lose their cool under pressure of the moment: and all that DID play out on that one afternoon !

And I grew up in Mississippi...In fact, my family has lived in Hattiesburg, MS, since 1850...about 20 years before it was incorporated...so yeah Mr. Atom, I've seen the most ridiculous amount of racism that one should be allowed to see...Most of it originated in my home unfortunately. On a positive note, I never fell for that crap.

On another VERY positive note, about 7 years ago (don't ask me how because I don't have a clue) I started receiving two tickets to see The Masters (Thursday thru Sunday)...I guess I got on their mailing list and was lucky enough to get my name drawn...What I'd say about Augusta is that in no way does TV properly show how much undulation/hills the fairways and greens have.

True story...There was a guy walking down the lane of oaks going to the clubhouse...he had his cell phone clipped (turned off and no way to ring) to his belt...Two security guys came up to him...each taking him by an arm while one of them removed his patron's pass...never to be issued to him again...they've got their rules and they enforce them.

p.s. Seriously, racism sucks for nickels !!
