VIP guests of Paul McCartney's Independence Concert to participate in fundraising for charity
Ukrainian celebrities, businessmen, politicians, foreign diplomats and other guests from abroad invited by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation as VIPs to attend the legendary Paul McCartney's Independence Concert on the 14th of June will have the opportunity to join a charity operation. The funds collected will be allocated to help the Children's Department of the National Cancer Institute. It is the biggest medical institution in our country specialized in fighting children's oncologic diseases. Over 300 children from all the regions of Ukraine infected by the gravest forms of cancer are treated here every year.
The Foundation is certain about the invitees' understanding the importance of such a social initiative to Ukraine where this awful disease gets younger every year and still is mortal in most cases: the medicine can save only 40% of young cancer patients today in our country. At the same time, survival rate in Europe is 70% on average. The sad statistics are generated by different factors, however one of the major reasons is the lack of modern equipment for the early diagnostics and effective treatment.
Thanks to the social initiative, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation hopes to provide the Сhildren's Department of the National Cancer Institute with a new equipment that will allow to treat the forms of the disease that have been especially spreading recently.
‘We already have the program "Craddles of Hope" that is intended to give the chance to all the newborn babies in Ukraine to have a healthy and decent life. We want a wide community of philanthropists to get involved in this social action that has become possible thanks to the concert of Paul McCartney who himself lost his wife and his close friends because of the cancer, and we want to show that joint efforts are capable of solving the identified specific issue effectively, efficiently and fast. Sir Paul McCartney is famous in the world not only thanks to his unique music but also via his large-scale charity projects and initiatives. His visit to Ukraine is another opportunity to think of what we can do for those who need our help. It is time to be together including for solving the acute social issues', said Victor Pinchuk.
Grygoriy Klymniuk, the head of the Children's Oncology Unit of the National Cancer institute, said, ‘The cancerous diseases spread in Ukraine as in the whole world. But unfortunately, the treatment efficiency indicators in Ukraine are twice lower than in Europe. There are both specialists and treatment technologies in our country but we lack equipment and medical supplies. There are different ways to help solve these issues: personally support diseased people, help with medicaments or medical equipment. Any of your contribution may save a child's life'.
The concert, organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, will take place on the 14th of June in Independence Square in Kyiv, at 9 p.m.
