DRAWINGS by a string of celebrities are being auctioned on the Internet to raise cash for children in Afghanistan.

The charity Spirit Aid hopes to raise hundreds of pounds through bids for drawings by stars such as Sir Paul McCartney (right) and his wife Heather Mills, Brigitte Bardot and Robbie Coltrane.

Twenty drawings will appear on the online auction site eBay, six with a reserved price of £100, and the rest at £30.

The Glasgow-based charity invited 200 celebrities to submit drawings after posting crayons and paper to them. Others who contributed some of their artistic efforts included Graham Norton, Robert Carlyle, Terry Wogan, artist Peter Howson and Liz Dawn, who plays Coronation Street's Vera Duckworth.

Lloyd Jerome, whose Glasgow dental surgery waiting room currently houses the pictures, said: "Given the names involved, I hope we can substantially beat the £1,000 mark.

Spirit Aid, set up by Scots actor David Hayman, has so far raised £30,000.
