The songs should fit the mood of the album. if you have to take out a "classic" to fit the mood of your compilation, so be it. Every song is good anyways, the fun part is making an emotional rollercoaster out of the CD, and at the same time make the songs stand out on their own. Careful selection.

Precisely. Normally, though, I've had to take out a "classic" simply because it overran. But you're quite right. It's flow of the album that counts on that level. That's why I agonised so much over the order of the tracks. Chronological order narrowed it down a lot, but there were still a lot of possible combinations for it! When you consider:

2 tracks from AHDN (2 possible ways round for these)
3 from Help (6)
2 from RS (2)
3 from Revolver (6)
2 from Sgt P. (2)
2 from the White Album (2)
4 from LIB (24)

That makes 24x24x24 ways. So 576x24 = 144+1680+12000=13824 possible orders when sticking to it chronologically! (Double that if you just lump "Penny Lane" in with "Fool On The Hill" as MMT tracks!)

Fortunately, I was working with small numbers of tracks at once, and was able to get them into orders that made sense when fitted in between singletons.

And as for the non-inclusion of Love Me Do, it may be their first single but I am not that keen on it. The same verse repeated four times? Come ON!

Understandable, but I´ll still want some of the early stuff.

Fair enough. Have a go yourself, then! Put together one CD full of Paul's Beatles high points, see how it turns out! :)

I will use a double album. Disc 1 1962 - 1966 Disc 2 1967-1970.
And his solo carreer. Disc 3 1970-1975 Disc 4 1976-1982, Disc 5 1983 -1992 Disc 6 1993 - 2004. But you right, it is difficult. It´s a kind of luxury problem, he is a hitmachine
