Yup, around '56. He told us in Liverpool he was 14 when he wrote it.

Yes it was, with a new section to pad it out a bit. The actual original song only has two (?) verses, plus a little vocal "uh-huh" hook thing.

As far as I know wrote he that song before Mary died also in 1956.
