Ringo Starr's upcoming studio album, titled Liverpool 8, will be released in June. Longtime producer and collaborator Mark Hudson says that the album, which he co-produced with Starr and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics, features a new "synthetic" direction for Starr, and steers him away from the Beatle-esque direction of his past four albums. The title of the album refers to Starr's original Liverpool postal code.
In addition to working on the studio set with Starr, Hudson has wrapped up work on Starr's still-untitled live album which was the soundtrack to the 2005 Soundstage concert aired on PBS. The show, which was taped in Chicago, is due out on May 8th.
The concert featured Starr and his former band the Roundheads tackling such Beatles and solo classics as "With A Little Help From My Friends," "Octopus' Garden," "Yellow Submarine," "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy," "Back Off Boogaloo," and others.
