Apparently, George Martin said John and Paul were by far the most important persons, and George, Ringo and himself were of rather secondary importance in comparison. But still, if any one of the "secondary" ones had not been there, it would not have been the same. And I do agree that it seems "self-promotion" was not precisely George's forte. At least in the beginning, he was just not confident enough to push his own ideas more. And if you don't really believe in yourself, it's hard for others to do so.
