If you think SRV's Little wing is better, you must be an only one who thinks so.

So, there's only 1.3 million in your whole country? that's pretty cool. It's almost like you can say "you're one in a million" and almost be the truth in that country.

I don't like SRV's version of Little Wing. Here's why: there's no vocals in it. Right from the get-go, he starts noodling away, over and over, the poignancy of the song is ruined right there. It needs Jimi's singing and his emotion. And let the guitar say its piece at the end of the song. The coolest part of the song is hearing Jimi sing along with his guitar as it fades out.

I've got a cd with Hendrix doing a cover of Sunshine of Your Love - and turns it into a rollicking blitzkrieg. Clapton's version is nice and sedate and all the right moves at the right time, calculated - Hendrix's version is amazing. He plays it at a much faster tempo, like a demon possesed.

No one is going to agree with this, but here's a quick Top 20 of my favourite all-time guitarists:

1. Jimi Hendrix
2. Kurt Cobain (Nirvana)
3. David Mitchell (3Ds)
4. Elliott Smith
5. Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age)
6. Joe Satriani
7. Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath)
8. Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin)
9. Eric Clapton
10. Dean DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots)
11. Daron Malakian (System of a Down)
12. Steve Vai
13. Jeff Buckley
14. Vernon Reid (Living Colour)
15. Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
16. Slash (Guns n Roses)
17. Robert Smith (The Cure)
18. Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)
19. Pete Townshend (The Who)
20. John Frusciante (Red Hot Chili Peppers) - Dave Navarro is also equally cool.

I've made an mp3 for you to download of examples of each of my favourite guitarists in my list, so you can familiarise yourselves with anyone you haven't heard. Each song example is in the same order as the list (Hendrix first). I've changed my #20 to Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine / Audioslave. :D The filesize of the mp3 is 1.42mb but there's plenty of cool music on it. Over 10 minutes worth.
