Sometime In New York City

Anyone got this album? I'm curious as to what it's like, not having it myself. Any good stuff on it? Any real howlers?

I think the whole thing is a howler, but there a few catchy tunes. I guess. It's been far too long to give a fair assesment.

Right. I've not seen it floating around over here in any great supply, maybe I might just happen across it sometime . . . I dunno. Maybe there'll be a reissue at some point. I'd like to have it for completeness' sake . . .

Liam--That's why i'm going to ask Santa for a turntable this year. I can't hear any of my old stuff, and i really dont want to go to the expense of buying new CD's on some things that are iffy as far as quality...at least in theory [:D]

Liam - Yes, I have SINYC since 1977 as double LP, and got the CD(also double) few years ago... Musically is, ermmm..., average I can say.
That's too much political pamphletary album I think, not much to show John's music but his political ideas. On disc 2, we can hear him in a live show at Filmore East theatre plus Frank Zappa & Mothers Of Invention and I think that's OK as a live show, but that's not his best at all. Yoko's presence is remarkable, that made the work being rather weak. But we can feel the Lennon's R&R vein on some tracks as "NYC".

Peace.

Well, I had a listen. Again, MDC shot the wrong partner in that couple! Yoko sounds as awful as ever. The music sounds all right, but the lyrics are far too topical. If you're going to do lyrics like that, use a bit of subtlety. Or at the very least don't use names!
