I actually think there are a couple of good Yoko songs on this album, others are kinda forgettable. John's songs are pretty good - Nobody Told Me is a classic - Grow Old With Me is a timeless anthem ballad, and Borrowed Time is superb - love those guitars and that reggaeish rhythm / melody. I'm Stepping Out is also a great opener.

I'd love to rate some of John's albums, but until I get my new record player I can't - I've only got them on vinyl and there are (even though only few) tracks I don't remember that well.

Anyhow, one question, Kyle: do you mean the song "Dancing in the Streets" which was done by Mick Jagger and David Bowie in 1985? If so, was that a cover version then? Right now, I can't quite see the similarity, would have to give it a re-listen. I've always liked this John song (in my book it's a 10) - also (though not mainly) because of the hilarious "German" intro

Hi Cologne Girl - take a listen to the Martha and the Vandellas' "calling out around the world, are you ready for a brand new beat" - then put on I Don't Wanna Face It - "say you're looking for a place to go,
where nobody knows your name" - the same melody except transposed one exact tone lower.

"Nobody Told Me" is fantastic- just the demo of it went TOP 5 in America. The rest are not so fleshed out and they suffer in comparison. "Grow old With Me" might have been incredible if John has been able to do a proper arrangement for it.

I've heard a lush 'Spectorized' mix of Grow Old With Me and it totally ruins the song, turns it into something it isn't - except John doesn't have the opportunity to fight back and do a Paul 'Winding Road' re-rendering of it. I love the beat-box original version.
