“SO THIS IS XMAS”
AT THE ANN ARBOR SHOW
DECEMBER 8TH, 9TH 10TH & 11TH
JOHN LENNON WILL BE REMEMBERED AS ONE OF THE TRUE GREAT VISIONARIES OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY. ALTHOUGH PRIMARILY A MUSICIAN, HIS ARTWORK HAS EARNED A SERIOUS PLACE IN HISTORY AS WELL. HIS LAST YEARS, SPENT WITH HIS WIFE AND FAMILY AT THE DAKOTA, ARE CHRONICLED THROUGH HIS INSPIRING AND EMOTIONAL SKETCHES.
" I THINK JOHN’S ART, FOR THE MOST PART, REPRESENTS OLD FASHION FAMILY TRADITIONS. HE MADE A LOT OF SOCIAL STATEMENTS, BUT THERE'S A LOT ABOUT THE FAMILY IN HIS WORKS. "
WE ARE ALL FAMILIAR WITH JOHN'S MUSIC, BUT FEW OF US HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE OF VIEWING HIS ART. BEFORE JOHN WAS A BEATLE, HE WAS AN ARTIST. HE ATTENDED LIVERPOOL ART SCHOOL FOR THREE YEARS. THE DRAWINGS IN THIS EXHIBITION, ONE OF THE LARGEST COLLECTIONS OF JOHN’S WORKS, DEPICT HIS YEARS AS A VISUAL ARTIST AND FAMILY MAN. THEY ARE A WHIMSICAL BUT INTIMATE PORTRAIT OF JOHN LENNON’S LIFE.
THIS EXHIBIT INCLUDES: BAG ONE LITHOGRAPHS SIGNED BY JOHN LENNON IN 1970, RARE ORIGINAL DRAWINGS FROM THE EARLY 1960s AND LIMITED EDITION PRINTS REPRODUCED FROM JOHN’S DRAWINGS, SIGNED BY YOKO ONO, INCLUDING THE “REAL LOVE – THE DRAWINGS FOR SEAN” EDITIONS
