Lohan, Leto Shooting Lennon Film

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 3) - Lindsay Lohan and Jared Leto will star in an independent movie about the murder of former Beatle John Lennon, Daily Variety said in its Thursday edition.

"Chapter 27" features Lohan as a Lennon fan who befriends Lennon's murderer, M*** C****** (Leto), during the weekend that he kills the musician outside his New York apartment building, the paper said. It did not mention who would play Lennon.

Lohan, best known for such hits as "Herbie: Fully Loaded" and "Mean Girls," has recently been wading into indie waters. She just wrapped work on Robert Altman's high-powered ensemble musical "A Prairie Home Companion," and signed on for "Bobby," Emilio Estevez's project about the assassination of Robert Kennedy.

Leto's recent credits include "Lord of War," and "Alexander."

Producers said Lennon himself would have a relatively small screen presence in Chapter 27.

Lohan's character was created to help film-makers explore the motivation behind the killing, they added.

The film is the first project from director Jarrett Schaeffer, who also wrote the script.

It is being co-produced by Toronto-based Peace Arch Entertainment and 21 Grams film-maker Robert Salerno's company Artina Films.

"It's a psychological study," said Peace Arch's John Flock.

"I wouldn't call it a sympathetic portrayal of him, but you do kind of get into Chapman's head."

The film's title is said to be a reference to the 26 chapters in the JD Salinger novel The Catcher in the Rye, which Chapman said was an inspiration for the murder.

Thats sickening! ..... I don't think I want to see that movie. What a horrible subject for a movie in the first place. I hope the don't twist the facts all up, like many Hollywood intepretations of historical events. It looks like its mostly fiction, but based on a true story. I'm suprised Yoko never thought of doing something like this herself.
