I have a viola bass. I don't really play it that much. It really depends on what kind of music you want to play. For instatnce 50's or early rock n roll type bass licks tend to be really easy for beginners. I woundn't tackle any paul licks just yet. [;)]Good luck.

As Scrod said, it really depends on what you want to play. Anybody can pluck a few notes and call themselves a bassist. But if you want to be REALLY good and understand the instrument, you're gonna have to practice. I took bass lessons for about a year and a half, and was in my school jazz band for two years. I can probably answer any questions you have. There are a couple other bassists on this site as well.

no i just dont take them to the mall with me anymore or take them with me and yell at them whenever i say i wanna buy a c.d and they wont let me[8)]

me is here. Ya megs, listen to Ram he would know quite a bit on the subject. I just took what I learned in guitar lessons and applied some of it to the bass. If you want some tabs or tips, olga.net has a lot of stuff.
