look...i know it's difficult to remember, but...obama, even in the campaign, said he was NOT against further drilling...he was just more than willing (than palin/mccain) to make sure we did it right, in the right way, in the right places.

the statement he made is true: up to this disaster, we'd had no significant problems.

the very same advances in engineering technology that have made cars safer, airplanes safer...spaceflights safer, equally applied, tend to make even the lest thoughful among KNOW that what he said in that...what...18 seconds was entirely true..

however: when was this oil rig was commishioned ? which administration oversaw its building ?

and..more importantly: is this NOT the exact same thing palin/nccain & their 'get gov't out of our business' cohorts were saying with their chants and taunts: drill, baby, drill...

so, now...even though it is clear that democrats are, in fact, and always have been, pro-business..the current president can't say something like that ?

except, it hasn't happened...my state & local taxes have...every year...with a republican controlled our state congress...they've been firmly in control of both state houses for over 30 years...with republicans firmly in control of all local positions, as well...my taxes always go up....
except for all the big business tax cuts...every year...ad infinitum...to bring all the jobs...(but, our unemployment rate is just as high as the national average, go figure)

in the long run, (and we've long since surpassed that) i think obama started out on the right ...er, correct foot. but, as it became clear that BPs efforts (valiant or otherwise) were not getting the job done, he should have found a way to get the ball rolling.

there is no doubt that, by allowing the one delt the cards to continue to lead the game, even when all the signs showed they were clearly losing the battle, that he's dropped the ball.

let's not forget, though, that this has been an unfolding text that it yet to be fully written: many of the decisions made seem, almost daily, to be based on best case scenarios or murky, unclear statistics.
no matter what, there is only so much 'washington' can/could do...and blustery rhetoric is NOT what i want from any president, or any armchair, newly minted oil proffesionals in a time of crisis: that's so very nineteenth century...

BP seems to think that the current administration has been fair in allowing them the lead in taking care of thier mess: there is nothing stopping them from saying otherwise. one look askew from them would certainly end any chance obama might (slimly) hold for a good legacy, never mind a possible re-election, never mind saving face right here in the current moments.

put all the out of work workers to work, earning the same amount of money they would've made, on BP's payroll, build whatever needs to be built...clean whatever needs to be cleaned...bring on the water skimmers-clean the water, just as has been done in other places, to, seemingy, good effect...BP & the gov'ts of both the US and La., WORK TOGETHER..NOT creating self-serving, politically motivated spectacles (bobby jindahl !*)...and get the friggin' job done

*so, then, why take the time to single out jindahl: very simple..i live in a state that is very prone to natural disasters..NO governor would've survived in office, never mind be re-elected, if all they ever did, when things went bad, is sit back and whine about how the big, bad washington hadn't come to the rescue: in this state...a republican state, you roll up your sleeves and help...nothing stopped jindahl from doing all the things he claims the feds/obama wouldn't let him do...does he think obama would send in the troops to stop him if he just up and decided to build his new barriers ? really ?!?

jindahl, like so many other 'republicans' campaigned on getting smaller, less intrusive gov't: big gov't out of the way...out of our lives...when you are one of the people yelling about cutting the legs off the dinosaur: DON'T COMPLAIN WHEN THE DANG THING CANNOT RUN !

Former Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney sees some hope in BP oil slick saga and believes it can accelerate efforts directed towards search for alternative non-polluting renewable energy resources.

He called the spill a wake-up call saying "Sadly we need disasters like this to show people. Some people don't believe in climate warming - like those who don't believe there was a Holocaust."

In an exclusive interview with Sun, McCartney also categorically refuted negative comments directed towards President Barack Obama's efforts to curb the oil spill. He said, "I don't accept the criticism of Barack over the oil spill" and further added, "I think he's been great. It's tough if we Brits whinge that he's whingeing at us. Tough, then don't spill oil."

McCartney met Obama for the first time in an award ceremony last month where the President felicitated Sir Paul with the Gershwin Prize for Popular Song. McCartney is the only British singer and the third recipient of the exclusive award, which includes artists Paul Simon and Stevie Wonder.

McCartney is an avowed environmentalist and animal rights supporter who recently extended his support to the anti-whaling campaign and is a patron of the Vegetarian Society.

His popularity does not seem to be waning as his upcoming second show in Philadelphia in Wachovia Center on August 14 was sold out in two-minutes; the fastest ever sell out at the Wachovia Center.

The Oil Spill is a result of Capitalism gone mad. Which is just really regular capitalism.

You want to drill for oil and make yer trillions off the common-worker,
and then want no responsibility for safety nor ill affect if something goes wrong.

Of course is you need to label a bad guy, BP is it. There is no question there, but the bad guy? I need gas to fuel my car and the many other things such as the food I eat is shipped to where I live, thus we need oil. Until this gets resolved, meaning the need for oil, accidents can and will happen. BP is certainly committed to spend what it takes, and it will be billions.

"Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has received $44,899", in the same period Obama received almost double. The Reuters facts I quoted are funds just from BP, not all oil companies.

This is where your wrong, if the government invested in eco-friendly things like Hydrogen Fuel, you wouldn't need to drill oil to fuel your car, and get things delivered to your town like food.

Your whole view of "We Need Oil" seems quite selfish and un-humanitarian when you consider the risk oil-drilling posts, not only to wildlife if a disaster occurs, which it did,
but also the burning of these fossil fuels to create an increasing greenhouse effect, bad air content, climate change.

I've felt the effects of things like pollution , every been out in the country or less-developed areas, then you go to the big-city,
the air-quality is bad. No doubt causing serious health issues, eventually..

one oil spill, no matter how severe, does not nescessitate another dreary python-esque rant...especially since socialism/communism near-total failure at every accountable level.


the second set, however, is rather spot on...not to mention all the capital growth that would ensue with all the new job creation, and/or switching...

sure are alot more hard-core anti-global warming types changing their tune of late...couldn't be because they were wrong...but at least some of them have the balls to admit it...
